This article will show you how to add Raw Files globally to your website, such as TXT, XML, or HTML files. Generally, these will be used for robots.txt and sitemap.xml files, but before we begin, please note that these are not required for site performance or improved SEO. Recent discussions within the tech community strongly suggests focusing on website content, as well as metadata/tags, to better improve SEO rankings. You can check out these support articles to learn more about Robots.txt and Sitemap.xml.
To begin, go to Settings >> >> then scroll down to the bottom of the page and select Raw Files.
Next, select Upload File >> then edit each field.
URL: add your desired url slug to this field; as a reminder, a url slug is the portion of the url that comes after the main url. Ex: yourwebsite.com/this-is-a-slug.
The url slug can be anything you’d like, but we suggest setting them to coincide with your content type. Ex: if adding a sitemap.xml file, you can set the url slug to sitemap.xml, so the full url would look like yourwebsite.com/sitemap.xml.
Content Type: select the applicable content type, such as TXT (for robots.txt), XML (for sitemap.xml), or HTML.
File: click here to select the applicable file type from your computer; if you’re using a 3rd party service, they should provide you with a downloadable .txt, .xml, or .html file.
Once you have finished setting up each field, click Upload to complete the process. If successful, you will see a green box that says “File Uploaded” and the file will be displayed in the list below.
